If you’re visiting Osaka, Japan, put the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan on your list!

I’ll admit it—I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when we walked in. But within minutes, I knew this was going to be one of those experiences I’d be talking about long after the trip was over.

The aquarium is HUGE, beautifully designed, and unlike many aquariums I’ve visited. You’re not just walking from tank to tank. Instead, you follow a fascinating journey through different regions of the Pacific Rim, with the exhibits designed to make you feel like you’re traveling beneath the surface of the ocean.

And then there’s the star of the show…

The whale shark! 

Watching these incredible creatures glide through the enormous central tank was absolutely mesmerizing. And the size of that tank? You really have to see it in person to appreciate it.

But there was so much more to see—from playful sea otters and penguins to jellyfish, rays, sharks and countless colorful sea creatures.

And this is where my pictures and videos really tell the story.

I’m sharing some of my favorite moments from our visit because sometimes a destination is hard to explain with words. You just have to see it!

One of my favorite things about traveling is discovering experiences that I might not have thought to put at the top of my list—and then realizing they become some of the memories I treasure most.

And Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan was definitely one of those experiences.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely.

Whether you’re traveling as a couple, with family, or simply love discovering unique experiences while you travel, I think it’s worth adding to your Osaka itinerary.
